  1. I've thought that Socrates' complaint against the written word, that it creates "forgetfulness" in the souls of learners, resonates even more strongly with digital media, particularly Web 2.0+ versions that are "post" literate.

  2. The book to read on this topic is Mark Bauerlein's The Dumbest Generation. It is a disquieting, but not implausible, argument.

  3. I'm reminded of Jeff Foxworthy's "You might be a redneck if . . . " series of jokes. "If you have an 'avatar,' you might already be more 'stupid.'"
